Kyle turns 10

My cousin turned 10 and i presented to make the cake for his birthday party as a present.

A cake that took me and my super great assistant, my sister in law, forever and a half to make. We started making this cake at 12:00 noon up until 7:30 pm. The temp. around my house was not to friendly to us and was making our fondant act up like crazy.

Even after all the trouble and back pain, i still couldn't believe i was able to put it together and make my very first 2 tier cake.

RN themed cake

this cake was a special request from my aunt. this was her gift to her boss . this cake was really easy to make. details were not so intricate. medicine bottle and first aid kit was made out of rice krispies covered with fondant. cake was red velvet with vanilla buttercream frosting.

stand up doll cakes

i really find these cakes really fun to make though i really had a hard time making the because everything was made all at the same day. from cakes to icing, to fondant, all all the extra details. aside from that, i made both cakes in day..... i am just so glad, both cakes turned out the way i wanted them to.

4th Cake

This cake was loaded with almost every single cake issue that i can think of. I guess it was partly my fault for suddenly deciding to make a cake out of nowhere. I made this one as a gift to my hubby to be's sister in law.

It was a friday when I drove to NJ with my sis-in-law to pick up the kids from my mom's house. The kids were away for a couple of weeks to bond with the grandparents .
My sis and I were thinking of what we could do for the weekend. She is really very supportive of my cake decorating hobby and wanted me to show her how i do it, so we decided that the next day, we'll bake and decorate. Saturday came, checked my mom's pantry and found a couple things we could use but still need to buy other ingredients. Went to the rocery and got the ingredients issue out of the way. I also didn't have any fondant already made so we had to make them too instead of buying pre-made ones which will cost a lot more.

Started decorating about 12 noon. Fondant was acting up on me. As we were trying to create the finish decor, I ran out of fondant. Initial plan was to cover the whole cake with colorful strings but unfortunately we didn't have anymore fondant left and I was way too tired already to make more.

My frosting was melting already even before we finished the cake. It was too humid and it was just not the right day to make a cake for me. all in all, even after all the issues, I was still happy with the way it turned out.

3rd cake.... whimsical red roses cake

making this cake was really fun yet challenging. my fondant decided not to cooperate with me. it just kept tearing left and right. i made a couple attempts to finally cover the cake.

this cake was actually made for my hubby to be's mom's birthday so it felt like there was a lot of pressure on trying to make the cake as neat as possible. plus, hubby had to drive to cake without me from maryland to new jersey. i was on call at work so i couldn't drive up to nj with him to celebrate his mom's birthday.

i could describe this cake a much neater than the other previous cakes i made and i'm really happy that i see progress on this new found passion of mine.

My 2nd Fondant Cake

Helena turned 3:
My niece turned 3 on the 26th of  July and I made about 36 red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and a 9 inch pound cake. Fondant, tinker bell decor. I made pink and purple flowers out of gumpaste and the leaves and grass are made from fondant. I also made two bumble bees. I was really not planning to but i found a tutorail video on you tube on making them so I tried it out. It came out really cute so i decided to put them on the cake. Oh, and I also made those cupcake toppers. I attached the 2" x 2" pictures to the round frames I made from my scrapbooking papers. Bought the picks from Micheals and tucked the frames I made.

Start of my new found hobby....

It was late June of this year when I suddenly craved for a red velvet cake. I couldn't find a good bakery around my area that makes it really good, or at least almost  as good as the one that my fiance and I tried at National Harbor (Maryland/Washington, DC). I wanted to try making it myself but can't find a good reason to bake... July 4th came, my cousin's birthday. Found out that she  requested for a red velvet birthday cake from her husband. We bought one from Yaya's Bakery in Middle River, MD but I was afraid I wouldn't get the taste I was craving for. I searched online for Red Velvet Cupcakes recipe and found one that really looked super yummy. It was actually a "how-to" video on you tube. I tried the recipe with a couple altered  ingredients  and it was a hit.... I made about 16 cupcakes & everyone loved it. I also baked a Red Velvet Cake for a friend's birthday about two weeks later. The cake was good but was not really satisfied with how the outside appearance turned out. Didn't really have that much experience with cake decorating......
July 26th, my nieces 3rd birthday. My sis-in-law had asked me to bake red velvet cupcakes for Helena's birthday (my niece), but I really wanted to do something more exciting . I thought of trying out Fondant cakes. So I tried it out for the very first time a week before the party and that's how it looked like (picture on top). Was not perfect but I was really happy with the resultls....
